Our Turf Installation Process at Horizon Turf & Greens
At Horizon Turf & Greens, we follow a proven five-stage process to ensure every turf installation is durable, functional, and visually stunning.
1. Planning

We calculate the total square footage, ensuring precise measurements to determine the correct amount of turf required.
Drainage is key to preventing water buildup, and we account for slopes or install drainage systems where required.
We work with the client to identify and work around fixed obstacles such as trees, pathways, or sprinkler systems.
2. Preparation
Next, we prepare the ground to create a smooth and stable foundation for the turf.
We remove 1.5 to 4 inches of sod, soil, roots, and weeds to mitigate any future growth that could disrupt the turf.
The area is compacted to eliminate air pockets and ensure a firm, even surface. A slight slope may be created for natural drainage unless a level surface is required for a custom system.
3. Base Installation
A strong, well-compacted base is essential for long-term performance.
We distribute a high-quality base material, such as crushed granite or limestone, which provides excellent drainage and stability.
The base is compacted repeatedly to create a solid, even layer that supports the turf.
4. Turf Installation
Once the base is set, we carefully lay and secure the turf and strive for a seamless finish.
We roll out the turf gently to avoid disturbing the base, then trim it to fit the space perfectly.
Filler pieces are cut to cover irregular areas, and seams are carefully aligned for a clean, polished look.
Depending on the foundation, we secure the turf with anchor pins, staples, or adhesives to keep it in place for years to come.
5. Infill
The final step involves adding infill, which enhances both the appearance and performance of the turf.
Infill adds weight to keep the turf flat and prevents wrinkles or buckling over time.
It supports the turf blades, keeping them upright and providing a natural look and feel.
Once applied, we brush the turf to evenly distribute the infill and ensure a smooth, finished surface.
